Labor of Love
I count myself among the lucky ones whose life is blessed in all the ordinary ways with gifts that sometimes escape my attention and appreciation. The older I become the more I realize just what a treasure it is to be loved unconditionally in the way that all children deserve to be loved. What might our world be like if all children’s lives were as welcomed and cherished as my own? There isn’t a career on the planet that directly affects the future of the world like motherhood nor is there one that requires such a deep investment of time or of self. There’s a diversity of talent like no other required for this position that no curriculum vitae can parallel. For children everywhere, I pray for mothers like my own, whose labor of love has taught me all the ordinary ways in which a life should be blessed and the extraordinary value of the job whose compensation is paid with gifts that return now from my heart to hers.
